Tierney Sutton has a distinct, attractive voice, but it is her special phrasing of lyrics that focus our attention. Paul Simon's The Sound of Silence, for instance, is so familiar that we hear but no longer listen to the words. Sutton, in slow rendition, makes us appreciate the language, the poetry.
The most recent movie is Sully, from Her band matches the vocal interpretations with highly original, often sparse, arrangements in careful, meaningful rhythms and harmonies, particular the drumming, until when passed the torch, they expand in fine, rather different improvisations.
While most of the songs are taken in slow to moderate style, the Wizard of Oz tune, If I Only Had a Brain, is presented in up-tempo funky fashion. I personally would prefer more variation in tempo; nonetheless, the album is an excellent example of vocal art, one that lyricists would much appreciate.
I have to qualify myself first by saying that I've been a big Tierney Sutton fan for around 15 years now. I love her voice and her song styling That said, I love this album, for the first song "Windmills of your mind", exclusively. The rest of the album is OK, and not like her others, that are consistently engaging almost song to song. I would say though to Tierney fans, buy for this one song cover. It's perfect One person found this helpful.
Christian Jacob is my favorite pianist and this album does not disappoint. They have some really imaginative arrangements on an interesting selection of songs. This CD is subtle, really showing off her beautiful voice, and control.

Lucky Kitchen's Aeron Bergman prefaces The Shed Record with a quote from Foucault: "It is impossible to document an entire civilization, or even a short period of time within that civilization." What Bergman then sets out to do, defiantly, is present a portrait of "the family shed" in Clarkston, Michigan.
