Travel In Stygian - Iced Earth - Iced Earth (CD)

I just love the mix, the vibe and the song selection. Probably top live album in my book. Barlow rules and this lineup something wicked was always my favorite. Thanks to Century Media and Jon for releasing this great album. Now do it for Dark Saga please. I have my moments with Iced Earth Like most fans, I'm far more a fan of their earlier output I wasn't a huge fan of "Something Wicked I actually bought the three disc version of "Alive in Athens" years ago, and wanted to own it again -hence why I bought this version.

This album is representative of everything that Jon Schaffer has done right with the band from the beginning It is truly a massive live album; excellent sound quality, a great live feel to it unlike some live albums , excellent song choice and musicianship, Matt Barlow singing -nothing is wrong with this release. It has all the songs from the original 3 disc version plus a bonus song, "Colors" at the end of disc two -and it still sounds killer!

I highly recommend this to any fan of the band, or even if you're new to Iced Earth -get it This is one of the best produced live albums I've ever heard Schaffer and the boys rip through a huge portion of their catalog which makes this 3-disc version a must have This album is an absolute necessity for any IE fan Classic album.

This vinyl pressing is amazing. You can't go wrong picking this one up. I've been waiting a long time for it to re-release. A high quality album, unique in its type. Everything is killer: flawless guitars on all song some parts start a little bit weird like Burning Times lead guitar part , awesome drumming - Brennt Smedley, an excellent job Pure Evil In overall: Disc 1: fast, furious and evil. Disc 2: more classic but still killer. Disc 3: not so popular songs, but still great.

This is one of the few bands who can perform a three hour long concert and from beginning to end their talent does not diminish at all. Every song on this live album sound clear and is performed with great precision. Through it all, he feels no remorse for his deeds, and upon reaching the end, numbly accepts his fate of eternity in Hell.

Musically, the band picked up a new singer and drummer for this album. The singing is a definite improvement from the debut, ranging from a powerful growl to a Halford-like scream. Such skill is necessary to portray the wide range of feeling on this album. All three discs contain the best songs out of the Iced Earth discography.

Fans were dying to hear it live, considering they rarely play it. All the epics are here. Everything else is exceptional.

The crowd does its part. Not too loud, not too quiet. They get it just right here. This is the greatest live album ever made in my opinion. If you like Iced Earth, get it. Hardcore fans all ready own it. If you never listened to Iced Earth, this is the best place to start.

It has the best song from their first five releases. This is a must own. Anyhow I saw this in Virgin almost exactly 12 months ago. Well I have to say I was pretty impressed, good songs, no correction, bloody great songs actually, it did the job of ticking a lot of my listening boxes, however, just one small problem; the vocals!

Talk about value for money? And on top of that we have the vocals of Matt Barlow. The constrains of the studio have been lost and he just goes for it. But even something this good has to have a flaw right? Well unfortunately yes it does.

Only a minor one I suppose but also a bloody annoying one. What the hell were you guys thinking? The bottom line is this; this is the best live album I own.

If I was stranded on a dessert island and had a choice of 10 CDs to take this would be one of them. Hell, if I could only take 5, it would be one of them! Iced Earth is one of the most underrated bands ever. While they should not be embraced by mainstream media, they should be selling more albums than Slipknot.

Why one cannot listen to them is beyond me. Alive In Athens really showcases the bands talent and live energy, anyone who has seen the live will attest to that. The first disk is loaded with classics from every album. The 16 minute "Dante's Inferno" is pure power. Travel in Stygian is insanely heavy and Melancholy really gets the emotions flowing. The song that stole the show is clearly "A Question of Heaven. The second disk includes the epic Something Wicked Trilogy, one of the best concepts they have released.

The crowd fav Stormrider is really intense and Angels Halocaust defines the sound. The third disk is another solid lineup. Stand Alone is a perfect opener, Brainwashed is a perfect example of their versitality.

Violate really steals the show with its brutal heavyness, sick double kick from Brent Smedley their touring drummer at the time and the little "Trooper" closing riff is classic. Emotional, heavy, relentless, epic and pure metal music at its finest. Everyone should have at least the double disk version, but the triple is paramount for any IE fans collection. I personally bought two of the three disk versions One of my top 15 fav albums by far and crucial to any metal fan's collection.

This album defines Iced Earth. Go and buy it now. I just love the mix, the vibe and the song selection. Probably top live album in my book. 2. Songs like "Disciples of the lies" and "Travel in Stygian" showcases just that, while tracks like "Melancholy" show how much power they can throw in a ballad and not sound overtly soft or poppy. This 2-CD package is packed with extensive linear notes from Jon himself in which you can see the tribulations he's gone through to keep his vision alive/5(28).

  4. Finally a great live performance dvd release of Iced Earth!!!! The year was The first live-dvd of Iced Earth finally released, "Alive In Athens". They already had the 3-cd set of the same concert that was on the dvd and the cd's were the best live-performance .
  5. The music they play is like listening to one of their cd's, no difference. The dynamics are like you never heard before. The audience goes nuts with every song. The tracklist the've chosen is perfect! Iced Earth the kings of metal, absolutely and especially after hearing this cd set! One note though.
  6. Also unfortunate is that as a fan of Iced Earth I would never buy this box, because then (almost) every cd I bought of Iced Earth would be obsolete. The previous boxset was Dark Genesis, which for me contained the 5 albums I was missing from the beginning years, so .
  7. Jon Schaffer is on kickstarter with a HUGE book of lyrical narrative art expounding upon his mythic story from the Wicked Days concept album, including many other other songs, AND a CD! Back it if you like Jon's world of creativity. 3 days left, $75 bucks!

  9. Year: Label: Century Media Alive in Athens was recorded on the nights of January 23rd and January 24th in Athens, Greece. Iced Earth was the only band who played at the Rodon Club those nights, and they performed in front of sold-out crowds (of approximately people) both nights. Iced Earth did not want to make a standard, run-of-the-mill.
