Vangelis "Soil Festivities" Several of the movements are among his best work and some of the best ambient music out there IMO. Tone , Apr 22, Love his work. As others have said, the second one equinox is a no brainer. Fantastic stuff, so ethereal! I Am The Lolrus , Apr 22, Yost likes this. Location: New England. It depends on how "accessable" you demand the music to be. Electronic music is everywhere today, but back in it was still very "sci-fi" or seen as kind of out there.

Portions of "Oxygene" were used in the film "Gallipoli. But if you can handle a more modern slightly less-accessable sound, Bola 's " Soup. It's nowhere near as mainstream sounding as Oxygene, but in 10 years I bet it will be. HiFi Guy , Apr 22, Location: Arlington, VA. Location: NJ. Dave G. PreciousRicky , Apr 22, Dillydipper , Apr 23, Mal , Apr 23, Location: Paris, France. For newer stuff, I recommend the French band Turzi. Some tracks on the album simply called "A" sound like JMJ, especially one called "Acid Taste" you can hear it here: www.

On the other hand, some of the kooky changes and beats really made me smile, which is something TD and Vangelis rarely do. There are a lot of really cool rhythms and things going on, but it seems like he's doing too much stuff at once and they all kind of step on each other in parts, like you're listening to 2 or 3 electronic albums at once.

Overall it's thought provoking and challenging, while being fun and loose, which is pretty hard to do! I'm sure to listen to it again and again. One person found this helpful. Years ago I got this in cd form I know have it on my kindle as well The songs all flow together nicely except on kindle where there is a little pause between tracks I hate that this occurs on other albums too.

I enjoy the synth sounds. This originally came out in 76 or There is a follow up album with oxygene which I love even more. Unfortunately, that album isn't available on kindle A room with glowing stars or black lighting is the ideal place to listen to it or while taking a nice bath.

I guess this could be considered "ambience" music, maybe the "trance" of its [70s] day. Welcome to late 20th century electronic music! This was originally released in in an era this music was lumped into the "New Age" category. If your looking for good melodic electronic music you've found your disc. I have four of this artists discs all of which I call his early essential works: 'Oxygene', 'Magnetic Fields', 'Equinox' and 'Zoolook'.

If you have some good headphones it easy to get lost in this work. I highly recommend all the discs I mentioned above all which are pleasantly unique.

You may have some trouble finding all these works, but they are well worth the quest. This album was the pioneer of a genre that sprouted in the 70's. Other musicians followed Jarre's footsteps but none ever got to this level of understanding of the electronic pop.

The album was so catchy that it was even played in dance clubs back in the 70's. If you like electronic music then this should be the first album on the shelf for you because it has no comparison. This is classic Jarre. Not a single track here is a throwaway. His compositions are unique and was able to create a trademark sound that only him can create. He may have been influenced by the German school of electronic music but his style is totally independent and distinct.

This is the school of electronic music the French or Jarre way and far more superior that any of his releases. This album is a full menu from ambient, new age, instrumental rock, dark, prog and ofcourse electronic or synthesizer music that is raving in that era.

Jarre got them all in this record. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. It sounds wonderful, and they have revised the artwork, more saturated colours, thicker text, and a slight crop from the original version which all make for a better cover, it's cleaner and sharper.

Really can't find any faults with this reissue. Thought provoking music. It uses various instruments to describe the fragile nature of our Earth and humanity itself. It is a musical piece that is based on a piece of art featured on the album cover. It is a modern classic, one of the themes has become quite famous and is easily recognisable.

I never bought this when it came out in the s so can not comment upon the sound quality of the original Polydor vinyl recording but to me this remaster sounds a bit on the thick side.

Its all there just takes a lot to stir this pot of synth pop from the s. Enjoyable but could be better mastered. It arrived in pretty much mint condition, the vinyl itself hasn't a single scratch. The cover looks amazing.

  1. Since i purchased Oxygene and Equinoxe last September I've been adding to my ollection all the Jarre albums that seem to have gotten the best reviews. Oxygene , as its name implies, is a direct sequel to the original Oxygene. Jean Michel Jarre even goes so far as to use many of the same synthesizers he used to create that classic work/5(93).
