Outer limits - Neo (46) - Broadcast (DVD)

Ikip talk , 31 January UTC. Where did this three Pilots nonsense originate? Stevens dubbed this last minute life-saving technique the "bottle show" - as in pulling an episode right out of a bottle, like a genie. So I stand by my statement 'The Forms of Things Unknown' was the only episode made as a pilot for another series, If you can prove otherwise - I look forward to any new information. Fair enough, found the on line pdf of the Epi-Log article, looking through The official Companion again found this from Joe Stefano page 49 "As soon as it became obvious to Leslie that I knew what I was doing, he kind of backed off from The Outer Limits to persue other new shows.

Oh and The Official Companion was published in Don't know if this is needed but, according to the Television Heaven website 'The Outer Limits' was first screened in the uk by Granada television from this date from the imdb entry for 'Au dela du reel' the french title when txed in 16 April , and showed only 32 episodes, and that only a handful of other regions it doesn't say which other regions screened it.

BBC2 screened all 49 episodes between Friday 28th March and Friday 17th July , not in series order, the first episode shown being 'Demon with a Glass Hand', this info comes from an old fanzine 'Shadow Play', the guy who produced it being a mad keen fan, can be checked against Radio Times.

The only other uk broadcasts, I can find, being satellite channels, Galaxy channel from BSB in , until taken over by Sky and the Sci-Fi channel uk. I detect a gap of the broadcasts in between Corpus Earthling 18 November and Nightmare 2 December Was the gap on 25 November a scheduled one or imposed by news coverage?

If anyone has a source? This article was recently added to Category:Space Adventure Series. Out of 50 episodes, I think just under half even begin to qualify as space adventure, assuming you allow for aliens landing here. Over half the episodes are earthbound. Did the opening sequence show an actual oscilloscope projection, or was it cartoon animation drawn to look like an oscilloscope? In black and white, it's hard to tell, but it looks like it could have been hand-drawn, obviously depicting an Oscilloscope wave.

I could not tell you the model of the oscilloscope used, but it is one. The director of photography just sticks the camera on the lab bench. A frequency generator not necessarily representing the audio we are hearing in the intro creates a basic waveform.

It's sine wave output goes to the oscilloscope. At some point another "beat" frequency joins the sine waveform, until they are in sync. A great device to scare and intrigue. Cheaper than animation. Is there any authoritative source actually stating that Vic Perrin provided the voice for the "Control Voice" introducing every episode of the original "The Outer Limits"? I just listened to the intro sequence of both the original series and the remake and frankly I think the Control Voice of the remake sounds a great deal more like Vic Perrin than that of the original series.

And yes I'm aware that the remake aired , or about 6 years after Mr. It'll be one of the LAST things that they probably do since the shows were black and white and from the early boomer generation. We now return control of your television set to you, until next week at this same time, when the Control Voice will take you to Later episodes used one of two shortened versions of the introduction. The first few episodes began simply with the title screen followed by the narration and no cold open or preview clip.

The Control Voice was performed by actor Vic Perrin. In total, 49 episodes were produced. It was one of many series influenced by The Twilight Zone and Science Fiction Theatre , though it ultimately proved influential in its own right.

With a few changes, the pilot aired as the premiere episode, " The Galaxy Being ". Writers for The Outer Limits included creator Stevens and Joseph Stefano screenwriter of the film Psycho , who was the Season 1 producer and creative guiding force. Stefano wrote more episodes of the show than any other writer. Season 1 combined science fiction and horror, while Season 2 was more focused on ' hard science fiction ' stories, dropping the recurring "scary monster" motif of Season 1.

Each show in Season 1 was to have a monster or creature as a critical part of the story line. Season 1 writer and producer Joseph Stefano believed that this element was necessary to provide fear, suspense, or at least a center for plot development. This kind of story element became known as "the bear". This device was, however, mostly dropped in Season 2 when Stefano left two Season 1 episodes without a "bear" are " The Forms of Things Unknown " and " Controlled Experiment ", the first of which was shot in a dual format as science fiction for The Outer Limits and as a thriller for a pilot for an unmade series The Unknown.

It was the only comedic episode of The Outer Limits. Earlier Season 1 episodes with no "bear" were " The Hundred Days of the Dragon " and " The Borderland " made before the "bear" convention was established. The "bear" in " The Architects of Fear ", the monstrously altered Allen Leighton, was judged by some of ABC's local affiliate stations to be so frightening that they broadcast a black screen during the "Thetan's" appearances, effectively censoring most of the show's last act.

In others, it was not shown at all. Season 1 had music by Dominic Frontiere , who doubled as Production Executive; Season 2 featured music by Harry Lubin , with a variation of his Fear theme for One Step Beyond being heard over the end titles. The program sometimes made use of techniques lighting, camerawork, even make-up associated with film noir or German Expressionism see for example, " Corpus Earthling " , and a number of episodes were noteworthy for their sheer eeriness.

Credit for this is often given to the cinematographer Conrad Hall , who went on to win three Academy Awards and many more nominations for his work in motion pictures. However, Hall worked only on alternate episodes of this TV series during the first two-thirds of the first season. Originally Posted by Quatermass. Find More Posts by jwstl.

I purchased the season two set six months ago from Deep Discount, right after the price drop on the two original OL sets. I had the exact same problem with disk two - one side would not even load or play on any of my DVD players. Looking at the surface of the disk, you could easily see that there was some kind of manufacturing defect on the disk substrate - a kind of cloudy and pockmarked mass just under the clear surface of the disk.

So I returned the box set to DDD for exchange.
