The first three are already listed above, just cllick on the links. Definately my favourite combination of products. I also have a 70's Readers Digest stereo record player Found your site accidentially, must say your work is impressing! Actually I wonder, if "Treasury of Great British Music" is a re-release of "Halcyon days", published in and out of stock since years.
Could you please link a list, so as to allow for comparison? Thanks a bunch for everything! Thanks for your comments. It is possible that 'Halcyon Days' is a re-release of 'Treasury', but, as explained above, everything after will not be covered by this blog. It doesn't sound like a very 'Digesty' type of title, but after they did try all kinds of collections.
If I come across it, I'll post it anyway - do you have a catalogue number for it? I found a record copyrighted in Thanks again!
It is possible that 'Halcyon Days' is a non-UK version of the same release. Is it a British release? Interesting one this, Darren. Although all Boston Pops albums were issued in the States, I'm guessing that this was a small release in the UK, just taking the American set and printing it over here. Again, I assume that because the Boston Pops version wasn't on the database scraps of paper in a folder at this time the code was used in error. I'll look into this some more and update the listings when I have more details.
Hi, I love your readers digest blog and have started to collect these fabulous CDs myself now after I bought a couple of them very cheaply a while back and became very impressed with the quality I have just bought a 17 cd collection on ebay in mint condition of Readers Digest release 'Klassissche Kostbarkeiten' Classic Treasures , do you happen to know anything about this collection?
RD UK 'softened' the concept into a more 'user friendly' packaging, although the concept of each collection concentrating on a single composer remained the same. The Australian Branch and other European editions released their own versions, but it was the UK one that was most profitable and run for the longest number of CD volumes 25 x 3CDs in total. Thanks for your comment darnall. I've just added Stadust to the list above. I'll try and add full listings and pics soon, but in the meantime, if you could send me any details you have direct to sfcpres99 googlemail.
Hia, Please can you let me know about the great ladies of song 6 cd set? RDCD in a "charity shop" for 50p, in 6 plastic envelopes, the booklet is still with them but in a shocking state, where can i get the original artwork to remake the sleeves? Hi - Original artwork is, of course the property of RD and will probably have been destroyed a long time ago, but if you e-mail me directly at the address above - I may be able to help.
Thanks so much for your site! I wish there was a US site with the equivalent track listings! My father worked in the Art Department at Reader's Digest for many years, and he designed some of the box and lp sleeve artwork listed above. I can remember him working on them at home in his study, layouts and photos everywhere.
Thanks for reviving some old, happy memories! Thanks for the comment. Please feel free to email me directly at sfcpres99 googlemail. I'd like to talk more of your father's work, if possible? Do you ever sell any of your CDs? I have a small collection of RD sets and am looking to extend. I am interested in the Sounds of the Seventies.
Regards Kevin. Hi Kevin, I do indeed sell CD sets, and am currently setting up a blog page to do just that. In the meantime you can contact me at sfcpres99 googlemail.
I think it would be an excellent resource. I certainly do, and seeing as you have mentioned them, I'll give them some priority. Keep checking, they'll be up soon. In the meantime, if you email me directly - I'll send you a text listing. Moog stuff is really hard to find and this is the only place I have seen this set listed. Hi Rob! I've deleted that album from the listing as it was not a Box set but a single album given away as a bonus with some copies of 'Instruments In Gold'.
It was only released on vinyl and had 14 tracks performed by Denny Morris. A track listing will appear on this site when I get around to listing all the Bonus LP's. Thanks for this - I don't remember ever having seen this set, but obviously the catalogue number and pictures on Discogs are all genuine.
I need to do some more research, but I've added it to the list for now. Do you know anything about this 7 LP-set? However I suspect that this is not what you are looking for. Do you have anything else to go on? A picture of the label, catalogue number, country of origin or partial track listing would help?

Throughout the years, Wilson would try to write new Semisonic songs that stayed true to their classic sound. Cults were deep into the process of recording their fourth full-length LP when singer Madeline Follin let a secret slip. At the time, it seemed inconsequential, just a passing comment amongst friends, but in the end, it would prove to be a monumental revelation, one that would change the acclaimed New York duo forever. The songs here are deceptively charming, with lush, airy arrangements that belie their dark, weighty lyrics, and the production is rich and multifaceted to match, blending retro and futuristic palettes into a spellbinding swirl of high-def indie rock and lo-fi bedroom pop.
As it's title suggests, 'Host' is an exploration of the sinister dynamics at play in a parasitic relationship, but rather than dwell in the discomfort, the record charts a cathartic journey towards freedom and self-reliance, reveling in the power that comes from standing your ground and declaring independence in the face of exploitation and manipulation.
Phantom Birds was ispired by a fascination with Bob Dylan's album, John Wesley Harding, and the way it was recorded with the minimum of musicians to draw attention to the songs. The new album, Empire of the Blind, picks up where the group's vaunted trio of full-lengths-Breaking the Silence , Victims of Deception , and The Evolution of Chaos -left off, but pushes the limits of aggression, melody, and heaviness.
Indeed, the idea behind Empire of the Blind was an all-eras full-length, one that had a distinct attitude complemented by shorter, more focused songwriting. Essentially, classic Heathen but with updated musical proficiency and economy. Digitally remastered edition. A multitude of rock music scenes populated the expanse of Los Angeles in hardcore punk, industrial goth, roots rock, and Sunset Strip hair metal, to name a few.
L7 fit into none of them, creating their own unique blend of punk and hard, hooky rock loaded with humor and cultural commentary.
