If the looks have been different, and the music of variable genre, the voice has always been flat-out gorgeous I'm no country fan, but this voice is a must-hear, regardless Shelby the blues singer.

Well, why not? This is an absolurely fabulous album The two songs which remind us that Shelby is country are "10 Rocks" and "Lonesome", with the second named having a slight big band touch. Shelby is pure joy.

That she's pretty, and sings lots of different music is simply icing on the cake. You need to allow for the fact that I'm obviously hooked on her, but do not fail to grab this record And I do mean wow. This is my first exposure to Shelby Lynne and I'm just all gobsmacked and agog over it. So far this year this is the best, most complete album I've picked up. Am I gushing yet? The songs on here are carefully produced, but with beautiful touches throughout.

With a voice and lyrics that remind me of early Sara K and the ability to let fly and romp or go downbeat, this is a complete, mature, beautiful work. I was signing along with the volume turned up driving around with this disc in the car's player, without even knowing the words.

Suffice to say, that while Lynne 's career has produced many fine recordings -- I Am Shelby Lynne from being a recent case in point -- Identity Crisis is easily the most consistent record she had released since Tough All Over in , and is without a doubt the most moving, ambitious, and elegant album of her career thus far.
