A bonus track also known as a bonus cut or bonus is a piece of music which has been included as an extra. This may be done as a marketing promotion, or for other reasons. It is not uncommon to include singles as bonus tracks on re-issues of old albums, where those tracks weren't originally included. Online music stores allow buyers to create their own albums by selecting songs themselves; bonus tracks may be included if a customer buys a whole album rather than just one or two songs from the artist.
The song is not necessarily free nor is it available as a stand-alone download, adding also to the incentive to buy the complete album. In contrast to hidden tracks , bonus tracks are included on track listings and usually do not have a gap of silence between other album tracks. Bonus tracks on CD or vinyl albums are common in Japan for releases by European and North American artists; since importing international copies of the album can be cheaper than buying a domestically-released version, Japanese releases often feature bonus tracks to incentivize domestic purchase.
Commercial sheet music are published in conjunction with the release of a new album studio, compilation, soundtrack, etc. A matching folio songbook is a compilation of the music notation of all the songs included in that particular album.
It typically has the album's artwork on its cover and, in addition to sheet music, it includes photos of the artist. Vinyl LP records have two sides, each comprising one-half of the album. If a pop or rock album contained tracks released separately as commercial singles , they were conventionally placed in particular positions on the album. Today, many commercial albums of music tracks feature one or more singles, which are released separately to radio, TV or the Internet as a way of promoting the album.
Double albums during the Seventies were sometimes sequenced for record changers. In the case of a two-record set, for example, sides 1 and 4 would be stamped on one record, and sides 2 and 3 on the other. The user would stack the two records onto the spindle of an automatic record changer, with side 1 on the bottom and side 2 on the other record on top.
Side 1 would automatically drop onto the turntable and be played. When finished, the tone arm's position would trigger a mechanism which moved the arm out of the way, dropped the record with side 2, and played it. When both records had been played, the user would pick up the stack, turn it over, and put them back on the spindle—sides 3 and 4 would then play in sequence.
It was a further development of the similar Stereo-Pak four-track cartridge created by Earl "Madman" Muntz. A later quadraphonic version of the format was announced by RCA in April and first known as Quad-8, then later changed to just Q8. The Compact Cassette was a popular medium for distributing pre-recorded music from the early s to the early s. After the introduction of Compact discs, the term "Mixtape" began to apply to any personal compilation of songs on any given format.
The compact disc format replaced both the vinyl record and the cassette as the standard for the commercial mass-market distribution of physical music albums. Most recently, the MP3 audio format has matured, revolutionizing the concept of digital storage. Take your time reading Book X. Breakthrough thinking of Ancient Greece is still active today. One person found this helpful. Great read for anyone studying political theory or philosophy. I recommend reading The Apology first, then The Republic itself. Both are in the book. I ordered this for my sister as a B-Day gift. She asked me for it.
Not sure if she's read it yet, but I'm sure she will like it. I needed this book for a college class and when I received it it was bent really badly. The book was still readable but I'm not happy that its bent. If your not picky about the condition of your books then I suggest using Amazon.

Along with the full 'Death of Socrates' tetralogy including the "Euthyphro", whose argument on the nature of piety gets to the heart of why Christianity is not, as Nietzsche suggests, 'Platonism for the masses' this Doubleday edition also includes the esoteric late-phase "Parmenides" and of course the "Symposium" and "Republic", all in Jowett's long-standard translations.
Reading the "Republic" in full, one can savor the loftiness of Plato's vision of human nobility, a merging of aesthetic and ethical criteria which still accounts, more than anything else, for our conception of the transcendent quality of ancient Athens again, contra Nietzsche and "The Birth of Tragedy".
While the communitarian and perhaps totalitarian aspects of Plato's political vision may or may not be ironic, the deepest wellspring of Plato's utopia can best be found in the formula "beautiful minds in beautiful bodies" which he has bequeathed to us as a supreme ideal in love and education. Throughout, it is Plato's obsessive consideration of ethical ideals-- and the rationalist metaphysics in which he grounds ethical imperatives-- that galvanizes the reader to ponder the reconstruction of self and society in the light of higher truths.

Record producers did not initially have reason to value either side of double-sided records as being more important than the other. There were no record charts until the s, and most radio stations did not broadcast recorded music until the s, when the Top 40 radio format overtook overtook full-service network radio.
The term "single" came into popular use with the advent of vinyl records in the early s. During this period, most record labels would designate one song an A-side and the other a B-side at random.
All records have specific identifiers for each side in addition to the catalog number for the record itself; the "A" side would typically be assigned a sequentially lower number. Under this random system, many artists had so-called "double-sided hits", where both songs on a record made one of the national sales charts in Billboard , Cashbox , or other magazines , or would be featured on jukeboxes in public places.
Conventions shifted in the early s, at which point record companies started assigning the song they wanted radio stations to play to side A, as 45 rpm single records "45s" dominated most markets in terms of cash sales in comparison to albums , which did not fare as well financially.
Throughout the decade the industry would slowly shift to an album-driven paradigm for releasing new music; it was not until that the total production of albums on a unit basis finally surpassed that of singles in the United Kingdom. However, since the majority of the 45s were played on AM radio stations that were not yet equipped for stereo broadcast, stereo was not a priority. Nevertheless, FM rock stations did not like to play monaural content, so the record companies adopted a protocol for promotional recordings for disc jockeys with the mono version of a song on one side and a stereo version of the same song on the other.
By the early s, album sales had increased and double-sided hit singles had become rare. Record companies started to use singles as a means of promoting albums; they frequently placed album tracks that they wished to promote on side A and less accessible, non-album, instrumental songs on side B. In order to ensure that radio stations played the side that the record companies wanted to promote, they often marked one side of a record's label as a "plug side. The first Now was released on 28 November and featured 30 UK hit singles from that year on a double vinyl LP or cassette. Although the compilation of recent hit songs into a single release was not a new concept (K-tel and Ronco, for example, had been issuing various-artist compilations for some years), this was the first time that two major record labels had .
