I like listening to the whole album which is hard to say about many modern releases by one-hit-wonder bands. The Outlaws have a new live double album out that was recorded in , you can buy it here on Amazon. They also have a album called "It's About Pride" that is really good.
See the Outlaws live if you get a chance, they really play some awesome guitar oriented music. This is a classic of country rock, but time has made it seem a bit less interesting. So many songs in the same key in a 1 4 5 structure. So much guitar noodling. It was the energy of youth that they captured that spoke the most loudly but their Stairway to Heaven, Green Grass and High Tides, still brings a smile.
I'm happy I read the historical review about the sad Outlaw saga. I then decided to purchase this particular recording. I love the long guitar sounds on this cut. I wish there were an easier flow from one cut to the next on this CD, though. This is great U. American music, along with all other American music I love listening to, like jazz, Motown One person found this helpful.
A GREAT album, always has been, that's why I've owned and given away several of my own over the years and buy another one. My 1st was an L. A "Must Have" in any collection. If you are buying this CD, you probably already know what your looking at. You can't go wrong cause they know how to string a guitar. I had been a fan of the Outlaws since this album was released in but it wasn't until I saw them in concert at the St.
They never received the same airplay that Lynyrd Skynrd and Marshall Tucker enjoyed except perhaps here in the Tampa Bay area. This was truly a shame as this is quite simply the some of the best music of the genre. The vocal harmonies comparison to the Eagles is inevitable but this too, is not a logical comparison. The music is just too different to compare.
Hughie Thomasson, Billy Jones RIP , and Henry Paul have a way of making you pull out your air guitar and jamming along side them, or wishing you actually knew how to play. I have listened to this album as much or more than any other in my significant collection and I never tire of it. If you've never heard the music, listen to the Amazon clips but they certainly don't do the music justice. If you only buy one Outlaws album, this should be it. A classic southern rock gem. I hadn't had the complete album in many moons.
I forgot some of the songs that didn't get any radio play were still so catchy. Grew up cruising Florida back roads listening to this and the other Outlaw classics. First, I listened to this very recording years ago. I am so happy to be able to purchase it for myself! Just the songs and a general idea of the story make you want to cry upon hearing these fantastic, emotionally thrilling songs! Then, I saw the musical "operetta" technically Then, 25 years later, I saw the Hollywood movie.
People who had never seen the original or heard the songs before were crying and still singing the songs weeks and months later. The director's decision to have all the actors actually sing and act their parts at the same time instead of pre-recording then lip-synching while acting made ALL the difference, from a perhaps pleasant but silly, or maybe annoying and wearying, attempt, to something that completely lives up to the musical and just as good, though with some changes.
So, if you saw the movie, there is one song not here. Was added while Valjean was travelling with young Cosette to provide an act break. Also, one song here wasn't in the movie the one Thernardier sings in the sewer, which was never great anyway.
I know there were a few verses cut out or changed in the movie, but unless you managed to learn the movie songs by heart which I HIGHLY doubt , you won't notice. People who saw the musical, or listened to the recording, many times noticed differences between it and the movie because they know it all by heart, but that's not the point. And anyway, all editing was with great judgement. This is the soundtrack of the original London cast, which is considered to be a little better than the Broadway version.
I have never listened to that version and can't compare. I saw the musical in Boston and it was phenomenal! The whole thing was pretty much sung it's a "operetta" , so that's all you need! He was kept in longer due to escape attempts, for a total of 17 years. He started a new life, but not before almost unwittingly robbing a young boy on the highway. He took on a new persona there's more behind the story of his conversion, but I'll leave it at that and became rich improving a process in his industry, becoming a respected elder and the town's hero.
Fantine was a hard-working but naive young woman who is impregnated by the love of her life who takes off, never to be heard from again. She was already getting sick undiagnosed tuberculosis before she lost her job when her pregnancy secret got out.
She sacrificed everything for her child, even unto prostitution, before she died. In the meantime, her daughter was in the care of a con artist and innkeeper and his nasty wife, who invented expenses and demanded more money.
Fantine was behind. Jean Valjean was unknowingly Fantine's employer, and only found out after she was fired. He promised her on her deathbed to bring Cosette her young daughter to her, but since Fantine died, he found and raised her in a convent where he hid after being re-discovered by former prison guard and now Police Inspector Javert.
He revealed his true identity at court to prevent a person being imprisoned in his name, begged Javert for more time, and when it was refused, took off and hid before this rediscovery after getting Cosette. All this is against the background of another potential French Revolution, and when she is older, Cosette falls in love with a student who is involved, and yes, it will come down to violence. The rest I will not spoil except to say he survives and they marry, but Jean Valjean leaves Cosette for her own safety, or percieved so with a heavy heart.
Valjean will be near death before we see him again. Also, during the violence, Javert catches up to Jean Valjean and Cosette AGAIN, but since Javert was posing as a revolutionary and they voted to execute him, Jean Valjean who could have solved his own problem with a single bullet , instead saves Javert's life and lets him go.
Javert is an honest but extremely rigid and order-obsessed man due to growing up as a gypsy who cannot live with conflicting duties duty to the law, and to God because all his perceptions have been smashed when a "convict" was more upright than most lawmen , and kills himself.
If this seems a little absurd, in the book there's a bit more to it Even if you never go see it, knowing the basic plot, the songs will make you cry. I am not a theatre junkie, but this is one thing you must experience. And if you ever think to read the book, you won't regret it! I didn't know the theme from "Exodus" had words until I bought this album. And what words! And what singing power! This one track makes the whole album, especially if one is familiar with the theme and the moving, poignant, historical novel by Leon Uris.
But the theme from "Exodus" is certainly not the only reason to buy this album. All the other selections are classics and with Mr. Williams' fantastic voice, are a joy to listen to again and again. Took a long time for delivery. Good CD. Every song on hear is a winner. These songs showcase Andy Williams voice better than any I've ever heard, other than his Christmas Album.
Andy is up there with Perry Como and Dean Martin, voice wise, and these are the songs that will leave you saying 'they don't make singers like that any more' and other things to cause your kids to roll their eyes and shake their head at you See all reviews.
